Message from Inspector Keith Curbishley
Your local officers are engaged this month on an operation to target wildlife crime. Such activity is very varied and attracts people from out of the area who will often have a much wider criminal background and commit other crimes whilst in the area. Offences such as digging badger sets, collecting birds eggs, fishing without the correct permissions and licenses, shooting or ‘lamping’ without the landowners permission, allowing pet dogs to run free amongst livestock and worry sheep are just some examples of illegal activities which occur in the countryside, 24 hours a day. Please support your local officers by reporting issues straight away.

I would like to take this opportunity to again promote the ‘Cheshire Alert’ website, which you will already be signed up to if you are receiving this newsletter. Being able to tell people about local crimes trends and pass on crime prevention advice, is one of the best ways of encouraging people to improve their security and get the right information to the police so that criminals can be caught! If you have any friends or families who are not yet signed up, please take the time to sit down with them and help them to sign up – it may just prevent one of your loved ones from becoming a victim of crime themselves.
 

Local priorities for June 2015 

1. Wildlife Crime – Operation Debug is targeting those areas where crimes against wildlife are taking place. If you know of locations where wildlife offences are committed, please contact your local officer.
2. Burglaries – Both commercial burglaries and house burglaries. Times of day and methods of committing offences vary over the course of the year. Local officers regularly put out crime prevention advice, designed to reduce the risk at any particular time of year. At the moment, leaving doors and windows open during warm weather is a major risk.
3. Road safety – Social drinking during sunny summer evenings, increased numbers of motorcycles and cyclists on the roads and overgrown hedgerows which obscure vision are all increased risks on the roads at this time of year. Officers are targeting those drivers who choose to ignore the risks and drive in a manner which puts other road users in danger.

Local news     Delamere, Kingsley, Hatchemere, Utkinton, Dunham on the Hill and Great Barrow

• There have been some reports of attempted fraud in the Kingsley and surrounding areas. Callers are claiming to be from the company ‘Talk-Talk’ and state that they have overcharged the bill payer and want to compensate them. In order to do this they require bank details where they then attempt to commit the fraud. All calls should be reported to your bank and also action fraud. Please be aware as this seems to be a common problem at the moment.
• There have been reports of drug dealing and drug use in the Delamere area. It seems a common theme for this to take place whilst the offenders are in their vehicles. If you see anything suspicious or suspect drug use is taking place please call 101 and report it as soon as it’s safe to do so. Any information about the offender or vehicle they are in always helps.
• There was a report of a suspicious van in the Manley area with two suspicious males on board. If you see anything or anyone suspicious in your area please call 101 and report it. It is safer for us to run the relevant checks on the person or vehicle rather than ignoring it. Even though this report shown nothing of concern to us it was best to check out the person and vehicle just to be sure.

You Said: Can something be done about the speed of vehicles in Alvanley
We Did: PCSO Brandreth has been in the village carrying out speed watch with the speed gun and also deploying our speed activiation device known as Smiley SID. We will continue to monitor this problem and meetings are being set up to work on how we can make it a safer area in terms of road safety. 
 
You Said: In Kingsley during the weekend football, cars pay no attention to residents drive ways, pavements and road when parking especially on Middle Lane. 
We Did:  Once we know of events taking place around the school we show visible presence to monitor the parking and obstructions on the roads. If you do have a problem during one of these events please call 101 and report it to us. 
 
You Said: Reports of drug use and drug dealing in the Delamere area
We Did: This information has been passed to all local patrols. During evening and night shifts we will continue to patrol the area and look for any suspicious persons or vehicles. Local news Frodsham

• Theft from shops - Recently, a small number of shops in Frodsham town centre had items stolen from the staff areas at the rear. Thanks to a member of the public reporting someone acting in a suspicious manner nearby, officers were able to recover some of the stolen property and arrest the offender. Please do not think that you are wasting police time by reporting activity that you find suspicious – we would much rather investigate and find that something is innocent, than let an offender get away unchallenged!

• Join Community Speed Watch - Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to join the Community Speed Watch scheme in Frodsham. Officers are searching for a number of willing volunteers in the area to join the already established initiative. PCSO Neil Flanagan of Western Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’re looking to get as many people as possible involved in this scheme which can make a real difference in terms of road safety.”

The initiative involves volunteers giving up some of their spare time to help monitor traffic in a targeted area. The volunteers - who must be over 18 - are trained to use a speed gun to detect the speed of passing vehicles. Motorists who are driving at an excessive speed are sent a warning letter and told that if they are clocked speeding again they could be fined £60 and face three points on their licence. 
A few volunteers have recently been trained with the gun and PCSO Flanagan is looking to add to this number. In addition to the Speed Watch scheme, local police are also working with the town council and the Highways Agency to bring in speed indication devices. The devices alert drivers to the speed they are traveling at and police say they have proven to be a worthwhile tool in problematic areas.

You said: Local residents expressing concern about youths causing a nuisance on off road bikes
We did: A number of off road bikes have been seen riding around the Frodsham area. Some have been seized for no insurance and others issued with a Section 59 Warning notice for riding in an anti-social manner
 
You said:  Residents have been increasingly concerned about the parking of vehicles around St. Lukes RC Primary School.
We did: Local PCSO Neil Flanagan has been targeting Whitehall Place and surrounding roads and issuing warnings where necessary. Neil will continue to monitor the issues at the school with a view to working with the school, residents, parents and the council to formulate possible solutions.
 
You said: Complaints have been received about groups of teenage boys and girls who are playing football on the tennis court and not moving off when requested by people trying to play tennis. They then proceed to kick footballs into the court from the grassy area at the side of the court.
We did: This area receives regular police patrols and youths have been and will be moved on and dispersed where appropriate. This will continue into the summer months

• There has been a report of a male firing an air rifle near to Hunts Lane, Sandiway, which is popular with dog walkers. If anyone has any information regarding to this incident, please do not hesitate to call the police on 101, or alternatively speak to a member of your Local Policing team. 
    
• There have been reports of illegal fishing at a private lake, off Mill Lane, Cuddington. Anyone who has any information regarding to this crime, please do not hesitate to call the police on 101, or alternatively speak to a member of your Local Policing team.

You Said: To tackle speeding issues in the Norley Road, and Weaverham Road, area of Cuddington and Sandiway. Hilltop Road and Station Road, Acton Bridge, and Chester Road, Sutton Weaver, as it is a “constant and on-going problem".
We Did: Your Neighbourhood Policing Team have deployed a 'Speed Indication Device' at various locations on at Cuddington, Sandiway, Acton Bridge and Sutton Weaver, for high visibility community speed checks for the month of May, to warn motorists who were exceeding the speed limit. They also did spot speed checks at various locations over the same period.


You Said: To tackle inappropriate parking outside the Primary School on Ash Road and Boundray Lane South, Cuddington. 
We Did: Your Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to carry out high visibility patrols in the area at the relevant times.

Local news Helsby

• Reports of vehicles parked blocking the pavement on Robin Hood Lane so that people in wheelchairs and buggy’s have to walk onto the road.   If you see vehicles causing an obstruction please contact 101 or email myself regarding the matter.

• There have been a number of thefts from motor vehicles incidents in the Helsby area over the past week in the early hours of the morning. People are advised not to leave valuables on display and always keep vehicles secure. If you see anyone that looks suspicious please call 101 or 999 if a crime is taking place.

• Report by a member of the public of speeding on Robin Hood Lane in the mornings and late in the evenings.  People are advised that if you see anyone driving dangerously to contact 101 and obtain a Registration Number.

You said we did Helsby

• To tackle the parking issues on Robin Hood Lane PCSO Finchett attended and issued advisory notices for vehicles blocking the pavement and will continue to monitor the location.

• All local officers have been made aware of the incidents and PCSO Finchett will give all areas passing attention. He has handed contact cards out and will patrol on foot around the areas affected.

• PCSO Finchett will be attending Robin Hood Lane with the speed gun when on an early shifts and will deploy the speed deployment sign which will tell drivers the speed that they are travelling.
