From 6th July 2015, Cheshire Police have undergone a significant change, moving from 3 Basic Command Units (West Cheshire, East Cheshire, North Cheshire) to 8 Local Policing Units (Chester, Ellesmere Port, Warrington, Widnes, Runcorn, Macclesfield, Crewe, Northwich).
The new Chester Rural beat team work as part of the Chester Local Policing Unit, which is managed by Chief Inspector Paul Williams, Inspector Paul Loughlin and Inspector Brian Green. My team are dedicated to serving the residents of rural Chester and will be happy to engage with our communities, partnerships and town/parish councils to provide the best possible service.
To fall in line with Council Wards, boundaries have now changed, meaning there are now 10 beat areas covered by Chester Rural.
For those that are technically minded, the new beat areas and boundaries can be found by copying the link below, selecting map data, council and democracy and selecting wards:

Western Rural previously served Tarporley and Cuddington, but they are now covered by Northwich Local Policing Unit. Western Rural also previously served Mollington, Saughall and Ledsham. These areas are now covered by Chester North beat team. I will continue to send alerts to people from these areas, as I am sure you will be interested in what is happening in nearby villages.
Rumour Quasher
There are persistent rumours that Cheshire Police have closed or are in the process of closing rural police stations such as Dragon Hall, Frodsham and Mickle Trafford. John Dwyer, the Police and Crime Commissioner has confirmed that there are no current plans to do this.
Although all Chester Local Policing Unit officers will now book on at Blacon, my rural staff are immediately deployed out to their beat areas and will have the use of their local out stations throughout their shift. These stations still have computers, interview/meeting facilities and refreshment rooms to allow officers to complete their work efficiently.
Our beat management staff are ably supported by Chester response officers and Roads Policing officers, who are also deployed to rural areas to provide visible reassurance and ensure that any emergency calls are dealt with swiftly.
Future Updates
I believe that it is extremely important to keep our communities updated with local issues, crime and arrests. I will look to do this by using the following media:
Force Website – A Chester Rural Newsletter will be produced at the end of each month and uploaded on to the Cheshire Police website. I will also ensure that this newsletter goes out on Cheshire Alert. The Cheshire Police website can be accessed via https://www.cheshire.police.
Cheshire Alert – Myself, beat managers and PCSO’s will continue to communicate local crime and community issues via Alert. I will also produce a mid-monthly Chester Rural report, which will compliment the monthly newsletter.
Twitter – Chester Local Policing Unit has a new twitter account @PoliceChester. All urgent rural policing issues and news will be highlighted on this, so please follow us. Anybody that followed the old Western Rural twitter account will have been automatically transferred to follow the new account.
New Phone Numbers – Although we are in a period of change, the emergency and non-emergency numbers remain the same. Please call us on 999 (emergency) or 101 (non-emergency) if you need us. The new phone number for Chester Local Policing Unit is 0845 458 6375. This is a voicemail facility and will allow you to leave messages for your local officer.
I look forward to meeting and speaking to as many of you as possible over the coming months and if you have any issues please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Sergeant Graeme Carvell, Chester Rural Beat Management
