Revised Winsford circular bus service to improve connections across the town and beyond
Residents will benefit from longer operating hours, new Saturday journeys and improved links to the wider bus and rail network when the timetable changes are introduced for the Winsford circular bus service W7 operated by D&G Bus from 1 September.
Recent improvements to the Service 37 timetable have created an opportunity to introduce a revised Winsford Circular service on a 12-month trial basis. The revised service will operate hourly, passengers will benefit from a full range of enhancements including:
- Extended operating hours from 7.17am to 5.38pm, compared with the current service operating between 9.40am and 2.15pm
- Additional weekday journeys
- The introduction of a Saturday service
- Direct links to Winsford and Sandbach railway stations
- Direct access to Sandbach and Middlewich town centres
- Integrated daily, weekly and monthly tickets that can be used across D&G Bus services operating through Winsford, making it easier to connect with the wider bus network

Adult and Family cycle skills
Improve your skill and confidence when you ride. From complete beginners to experienced cyclists, our friendly training sessions are on offer if you live, work or study in Cheshire West and Chester. There are adult sessions and family sessions available.
Bikeability
3,648 children have completed Bikeability training places during the past year. 74 per cent of Year 6 pupils across the borough received Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability training, equipping them with essential road awareness, practical cycling skills and the confidence to make more journeys by bike.

Moving Traffic Enforcement targets highways hotspots
There is still time to take part in the six-week consultation (ending on Wednesday 16 September) considering the expansion of Moving Traffic Enforcement by automatic number plate recognition to eleven potential locations across Cheshire West and Chester, from which four sites will initially be selected.

Winsford Station Bridge investigation
Traffic restrictions on Winsford Station Bridge will remain in place following the completion of initial site investigations into the condition of the structure.
Engineers are carrying out detailed assessments of the bridge and these will continue. However, based on the information available so far, the bridge cannot safely return to unrestricted two-way traffic.
One lane will remain open while the other lane continues to be closed, so one way only will continue in an eastbound direction towards Middlewich.
The following measure will remain in place:
- There will be one way traffic on Winsford Station Bridge
- eastbound traffic will be maintained across the bridge
- westbound traffic will be diverted via the A533 and A5018

itravel expanding to serve more rural communities
itravel is a demand responsive transport service, meaning it does not follow fixed routes or timetables. Instead, journeys are booked in advance and routes adapt to meet passenger needs. The service covers a wide area including Helsby, Frodsham, Delamere and Acton Bridge, as well as some other villages, where no commercial services are available.
itravel has been extended to include Thornton-le-Moors, Great Barrow and Ashton to the East, and Whitegate and Acton Bridge to the West. This means more people can access comfortable, flexible, on-demand transport, with improved connections to key destinations.

Travelling in to Chester for work or leisure? Park and Ride operates from Upton, Boughton Heath and Wrexham Road. Free parking, there are group tickets available providing even better value for families and friends.
Buses operate three separate circular routes direct into the city, then back to your car park.

Get around for £2 in 2027
Single bus fares are capped at £3 this year, reducing to £2 from January 2027 ensuring services remain affordable and supporting travel in rural areas and towns.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has worked with operators to encourage as many as possible to participate, although some services will not be eligible.
Journeys starting in Wales are not eligible for the scheme, however local concessions have been introduced by some operators.

Grid/gullies work programme
25,623 (gullies) have been cleaned since 1 April 2026 as part of the twelve month cleaning programme.

Highways maintenance
The Council manages around 1,419 miles of road in the borough, enough to take you from Chester to Rome.
The Council uses preventative treatments on roads where possible, these are products and methods that help extend the life of the road, and get the greatest life from the road before more costly structural maintenance is needed.

Major Works by utility companies
Severn Trent – Chester works – February 2026 to April 2027
Severn Trent, is replacing approximately 41km of water pipe across Great Barrow, Mickle Trafford, Aldford, Saighton, Eccleston and Pulford. Work started in February, with completion expected by April 2027.
